Description:

This is a very fine example of an original late production, six shot, large ring Bolo frame Mauser 1896 Pistol. This beautiful pistol has the very desirable Von Lengerke & Detmold frame markings. This pistol is somewhat unique based on the noted features above and it has the rare stock slot cut into the back strap for the combination wooden shoulder stock/holster which was eliminated on most of the pistol produced with these features. The top of the chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK, MAUSER OBERNDORF, A/N" and the right rear side of the frame is marked with "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A.Neckar". The left side, center frame panel is marked with "VON LENGERKE/& DETMOLD/NEW YORK". The left side of the chamber is stamped with a double crown/U proof mark along with the serial number. The right side of the chamber area has the early Mauser antlered proof mark. It has the short Bolo style barrel with a fixed front sight, while the base for the adjustable rear sight has been milled flat and it is fitted with a fixed rear sight. It is fitted with bolo style walnut grips with 32 Grooves, with the lanyard ring on the bottom of the frame. These six-shot Broomhandle pistols have the best feel and balance of all the 1896 pistols.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall, and thinning on the grip straps. The grips are in fine condition with nice dark walnut wood and some minor handling marks on the sides. It has clear sharp markings on the side. Mechanically excellent.
