Description:

This is an outstanding example of a very early production DWM Model 1914 Commercial Luger pistol. The key aspect in determining this as a true Model 1914 commercial lies in the serial numbers. The noted 1914 serial number range runs from approximately 71,500 to 73,500, with the 1923 Commercial range starting at approximately 73,500 to 90,000. So based on that could this actually be the last 1914 Commercial Luger model manufactured? This isn't locked in concrete as there are some overlaps in serial numbers between the 1913 and 1914 Commercial serial number ranges. This Luger has the 1914 stock lug, and is fitted with the hold-open device, new style 1914 frame with the coil spring. The chamber area is blank with the rear toggle having the DWM logo markings. The left side of the barrel extension breechblock and front toggle all have the early horizontal "Crown/N" proofs. The "Crown/N" is also found on the underside of the barrel. It is correctly numbered as a commercial Luger with the full five-digit serial number stamped on the underside of the barrel and the front of the frame with the last two digits (01) on the recoil lug. The remaining parts are all correctly stamped with the last two digits (01) of the serial number. This example is chambered in 9 mm Luger and it has the standard extractor and safety marking. It is complete with a nickel plated magazine with an unnumbered wooden base. It is fitted with standard walnut grips (numbered "69" under left panel) and has the higher polish commercial rust blue finish with straw colored smaller parts.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original blue finish overall with most of the restrawed colors. The replacement walnut grips are also in very fine condition with nice sharp distinct checkering. Mechanically excellent. A super rare early, early DWM Model 1914 Luger pistol.
