Description:

This is a fine example of an arsenal refurbished Mauser Model 1896 Red Nine military contract pistol that was manufactured circa 1916 that is complete with a WWI combination wooden shoulder stock/holster. The right side of the pistol receiver is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/OBERNDORF A NECKAR." and the top of the chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N." It is stamped with the serial number on the left side with a script letter proof on the right side. It has the standard fixed front sight with the rear sight is graduated to 500 meters. It is fitted with the standard 23 groove grips, with both sides marked with the large number "9" filled with red paint. All components have matching serial numbers including the grips. The rear of the hammer is marked with the intertwined "NS" for new safety and the top of the bolt is stamped with a single Mauser "crown/U" proof mark along with the last digits of the serial number. It has an all blued finish with a heat blued finish on the trigger, safety, rear sight elevation bar and extractor. As noted it comes with a combination wooden shoulder stock/holster. The attaching iron is numbered "141" and the stock itself is unmarked and appears to be made from quarter sawn walnut or ash wood.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 97% of the arsenal refurbished blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with some scratches and thinning of the blue on the underside of the barrel and rear grip strap where a stock was attached. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct markings with handling marks and light nicks on the underside and front edges of the grips. Mechanically excellent. The stock is in very good condition as it has been lightly sanded overall with the attaching iron showing 80% of it blued finish. The hinge shows 50% of a restored blue finish with minor pitting and erosion overall with heavier pitting along the edges of the hinge.
