Description:

This is a late WWI Imperial German Artillery Luger rig that was reissued during the early Weimar era that comes with a matching numbered flat walnut board stock, black leather holster, stock boot and brown shoulder straps. This is a unique Artillery Luger rig as the left grip and the side of the board stock has had the letters "EWB" burned into the sides which was identified it as belonging to the Einwohnerwehr-Bavaria or "EWB". This was an early paramilitary/police unit that was formed in 1919 by the Prussian ministry to allow citizens to protect and defend them selves from looters, armed gangs and communist revolutionaries. This was a time in Germany and Austria that had massive unemployment, food shortages and a huge debt due to WWI war reparations. Most of these units were made up of volunteer former WWI serviceman. These units were eventually all disbanded in April 1921 as it was a violation of the Treaty of Versailles, as the Berlin Government was only allowed a certain number of police and military units after WWI. The top of the barrel extension is dated 1917 and the front toggle has the "DWM" logo. These Artillery Lugers have an 8 inch barrel that was fitted with a standard inverted "v" front sight with the artillery rear sight graduated from 100-800 meters. The right side of the barrel extension has the standard "Crown/Script" letter proofs followed by the Imperial Eagle firing proof, which is also on the right side of the barrel. It has the standard military serial number placement with the full serial number on the underside of the barrel, front of the frame and left side barrel extension, with the various smaller parts stamped with the last two digits of the serial number. The safety area and extractor are both correctly marked; "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN". A matching wooden base magazine stamped with the pistol serial number is included. It also comes with a flat board walnut stock with the matching numbered attaching iron, a 1917 dated black leather holster with a set of brown shoulder straps, leather boot and a cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% plus of the original blue finish overall with blue loss on the side plate hump, muzzle and front frame rails. The center section of the barrel shows some old light pitting spots that have been blued over which has thinned out now. The smaller parts retain 60% plus of their straw colors overall. The grips are in fine condition showing nice distinct checking on both sides. The stock is also in very fine condition with minimal handling marks in the wood (except for the markings) with 80% of the original blue finish on the attaching iron. The various brown leather straps are all in fine condition, a little dry and showing some age cracking. The holster is in fine condition with a nice black color overall clear markings on the inside of the flap with tight stitching except for the front strap loop which has come lose.
