Description:

High quality restoration of a pre-WWII production M1 'Gas Trap' rifle. The right side of the receiver leg is electro-penciled with an arsenal rebuild mark indicating the rifle was subject to at least one overhaul. The restoration includes a mixture of reproduction and original components. The gas cylinder, barrel, 'keystone' operating rod compensating spring and 'flush nut' rear sight windage knob are accurate reproductions. The early stock is original with a re-stamped "SA/S.P.G." inspector's mark in a rectangular box. The solid buttplate, upper barrel band with drawing number, trigger guard, trigger housing, bolt, and most small components are original parts with the correct early markings. The operating rod has the drawing number "D-35382-0" and is original but has the post-WWII relief cut. The components required to restore a M1 Garand rifle in the "Gas Trap" serial number range are extremely hard to obtain. This rifle was reportedly restored by M1 expert Scott Duff and would be difficult to duplicate.

Rating Definition:

Fine as restored/rebuilt using modern reproduction gas trap cylinder/barrel. The rifle has 85% of the arsenal parkerized finish with the 7-shot internal "bump" having been rewelded into the left side of receiver. Finish wear is mostly limited to edges and high points. The buttplate has considerable wear and is mostly bright. The receiver markings are sharp. The stock has been sanded and refinished. There are arsenal repairs in the right wrist and the left comb of the buttstock. The handguards have more wear than the stock and are in very good condition. A very attractive M1 "Gas Trap" restoration.
