Description:

Named for their association with America's airborne units, the U.S. M1A1 Paratrooper Carbine was solely made by the Inland Manufacturing Division of General Motors in two identified serial number blocks, with this one falling very early in the first block. Blade front and "S" marked two-leaf rear sights, with an Inland barrel dated "10-42", a Type I barrel band, flat bolt, milled trigger guard, checkered button safety and a "W-I" magazine catch. The stock is the early high wood "Fat Boy" pattern, with a circled "P" (sans serif) on the rear of the wood, crossed cannon and "10" stamps on the bottom of the grip, brown leather cheekpad with brass rivet faces and an oiler, and the spring-loaded buttplate with proper casting numbers on the interior. One "IS" marked magazine is included with the carbine, along with a short green canvas sling and a "U.S."/"HAV STCH CO. 1944" marked green canvas belt case.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period modified (rear sight) with balance retaining 30% plus of the parkerized finish, showing some areas of gray patina and scattered spotting. The rear sight apertures have been altered to an open top notch style. The stock is very good with a thin crack forming on the left side of the pistol grip, a small chip absent behind the trigger guard, and mild dings and varnish loss. A few mild stains are present on the canvas items, which are otherwise in good order. Mechanically excellent. This example most likely saw action in World War II and would make a great addition to your collection or a museum display!
