Description:

Manufactured in 1862. It has the standard cone front sight, hammer notch rear sight, smooth one piece grip, one line New York barrel address, "COLTS/PATENT" frame marking, patent marking on a cylinder flute, "36 CAL" on the left side of the trigger guard, and matching serial numbers including on the wedge and cylinder pin. The included black leather flap holster once belonged to Civil War infantryman John W. Busch of Company K, 56th Regiment, Massachusetts Infantry. The inside of the holster flap is marked "JOHN W. BUSCH" above what appears to be regimental markings (Company K, 56th Regiment, Massachusetts Infantry). Born in Prussia and a gardener by occupation, the 34 year old Busch enlisted in February 1864 and served with Company K, 56th Remiment, Massachusetts Infantry. The included military records state that Busch was wounded on May 20, 1864, at Spotsylvania (likely during fighting during the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, May 12-21, 1964). Wounded on the left hand, Busch eventually lost his index finger with the hand and arm partially paralyzed.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished (cold blue touch up on barrel and cylinder). The balance of revolver retains 40% of the blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The frame retains 30% of the case colors. The grip straps retain 70% of the silver plating. The repaired grip (near the top) is fine with a small chip missing near the bottom, a large circular pressure dent on the bottom and overall minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. The holster is poor with overall age cracking, small tear on the flap and a missing belt loop.
