Description:

Only around 100 of these revolvers are estimated to have been manufactured in 1851 with the example being the first one, serial number 1. They were produced after Colt defeated Mass. Arms Co. in a patent infringement suit and have no visible maker's marks. The mechanism is rather ingenious. When the hammer is cocked the cylinder does not rotate. When the front trigger is pulled it rotates the hammer and then contacts the rear trigger causing the hammer to fall. The process is only very slightly slower than a traditional single action revolver. The only markings on this example are etched floral designs on the cylinder and "1" marked on the various components to include left side of front grip strap (under grip), under barrel, both grips, and face of cylinder. It has a cone front sight that is positioned between the two screws on the top strap for aiming, a loading lever, and smooth grips.

Rating Definition:

Good. Most of the revolver has gray and brown patina, but the hammer and loading lever have strong traces of original finish. The grips are very good and have minor edge wear and a few dings from handling and storage. The action functions fine, and the etching and markings are mostly clear.
