Second Model Pocket Percussion Revolver manufactured by the Whitney Arms Company circa 1863. The revolver has a six-inch barrel and five-shot cylinder. The revolver has the Second Model, 3rd Type features which include: seven-groove rifling, unmarked, five-shot cylinder with safety notches between the chambers, cylinder pin secured by wing nut, three-screw frame and Colt, wedge style, lever latch. The barrel and frame have a high polish blue finish and the hammer and loading lever are color casehardened. The frame and grip screws have a fire blue finish. The revolver has a brass trigger guard and the two-piece walnut grips have a high polish varnish finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "E.WHITNEY/NEW HAVEN". The serial number "21478" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and on the top of the loading lever. The Whitney Pocket Model Percussion revolver was a high quality, well-designed pistol. The solid frame with top strap sighting groove represented a significant improvement over contemporary Colt pocket revolvers.

Excellent. The revolver appears to be unfired and shows only storage wear. The barrel, cylinder, frame, and back strap retain 85% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish. Wear is limited to several small spots of finish flaking on the sides of the frame and back strap. The cylinder has only very light turn marks between the stops. The hammer and loading lever retain nearly all of the vivid case colors. The frame and trigger guard screws are in perfect condition and retain nearly all of the fire blue finish. The brass trigger guard has an attractive, untouched, patina. The grips are in excellent plus condition and retain nearly 98% of the high polish piano finish with minimal storage wear. The action functions perfectly. This is an excellent example of a Second Model, 3rd Type, Whitney Pocket Model Percussion Revolver that would be very difficult to improve upon.
