Description:

The Springfield Arms Company was founded in the early 1850s and manufactured several variations of revolvers based on James Warner and Elijah Jaquith patents. However, Colt sued the company for patent infringement almost immediately and the company was quickly forced to stop production of these Warner revolvers less than a year later. Due to this, only around 125 of these single trigger Navy Model revolvers were manufactured. This example is marked "SPRINGFIELD ARMS CO." on the top strap and has "WARNER'S PATENT" and "JAN 1851" along with martial themed engraving on the right side of the frame and a second martial themed pattern on the left side of the frame. The cylinder is etched with floral decoration and an eagle. "1E" is stamped on the loading lever, top strap, cylinder, trigger guard, under the grips, and underside of both grip panels. The left grip panel is also stamped with a larger "4" near the top.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces primarily display light gray patina. There are some traces of original finish in the protected areas and some small spots of light pitting. The revarnished grips are both good and have some minor dents and handling wear. The action functions fine. The etching is faint, but legible, and the engraving and markings are mostly crisp.
