The revolver is pictured on page 61 of the included copy of "The Guns of Remington." It is identified by serial number and listed as having been manufactured in 1864-65 via the "Special Order Department." The smooth grips are the distinguishing departure from the standard civilian New Model Navy revolvers. The underside of the barrel, left side of the grip frame and underside of the left grip are all marked with the serial number: "12." The rear face of the cylinder is marked "K" and the barrel has the standard "pinched" blade front sight and three line patent/address/New Model marking. Consignor states this item was previously on display at the Cody Firearms Museum from the Slim Kohler collection.

Fine. The possibly replaced cylinder retains 90% of the original blue finish, the barrel retains 40%, the loading lever retains 70% plus and the frame retains traces in the protected areas. The trigger guard has traces of the original silver plating and an aged patina. The slightly undersize grips are very good with light handling wear, attractive natural tones and some age cracks on the butt. The markings are crisp throughout and the action functions fine.
