Description:

Established in 1838, the "NON XLL" trade mark was used by Broadhurst from 1838 to 1884, when the mark was taken over by Joseph Allen & Sons. Measuring 9 1/4 inches overall, with a 4 7/8 inch double edged blade stamped "-NON XLL-/W.BROADHURST/SHEFFIELD" on the obverse alongside the scroll-backed etching "NEVER DRAW ME WITHOUT REASON/NOR SHEATH ME WITHOUT HONOR". The hilt is silver finished brass, with an oval cross guard and a twist pattern grip with a flared and repoussed pommel section. The sheath is brown leather with gold highlights and German silver fittings.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The blade shows some light spotting and handling marks, and the hilt shows a fine aged patina overall with a few rough spots along the edge seams. The sheath is good, with some scuffs and wear.
