Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle manufactured in 1909. This special order, Fancy Sporting Rifle has a half round/half octagon barrel with short magazine. The barrel has a standard sporting style front sight with blued blade and set screw on the right side of the base and folding adjustable leaf rear sight. A Lyman folding combination rear sight is mounted on the receiver tang. The rifle has a highly figured fancy grain piano-finished walnut forearm and pistol grip stock. The stock and forearm have Winchester "Style H' checkering. The pistol grip has a black hard rubber cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.". The barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver, bolt, loading gate, trigger and crescent buttplate are blued and the hammer and lever are color casehardened. The left barrel flat is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PAT. OCT. 14. 1884. JAN. 20. 1885." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber, "45-70" is roll-stamped on the left barrel flat just ahead of the receiver. Oval Winchester "W/P" proofmarks are stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The lower tang is roll-stamped with the 1884 and 1885 patent dates behind the trigger and the serial number "149488" is stamped behind the rear tang screw.

Excellent. This rifle is all original and retains 97% of the bright original blue finish. Nearly all of the blue finish is present on the barrel and magazine. The forearm cap has some minor scuff marks but retains more than 90% of the finish. The blue on the forward underside of the receiver has thinned slightly from handling. Nearly all of the blue is present on the bolt, loading gate and trigger. The heel of the buttplate shows some very minor edge wear but retains at least 95% of the original blue finish. The hammer and lever have 75% of the original muted case colors intact. The fancy grain walnut stock and forearm are both in excellent condition and retain nearly all of the high polish piano finish. The finish on the underside of the forearm between the checkered panel and the receiver has a several minor chips and scratches. The stock has some light handling wear on the wrist and a few very insignificant handling and storage marks. The checkering on the forearm and pistol grip remains sharp. The markings on the barrel and receiver are perfect. This is a choice example of a Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1886 Fancy Lever Action Rifle.
