Description:

The factory letter confirms this rifle was received in the warehouse on June 15, 1888, and shipped the following day as part of order number 7,525 in .44 caliber with a round barrel, 1/2 magazine, and plain trigger. It has a Rocky Mountain style blade front sight, notch rear sight with attached peep panel, empty taps in the upper tang for folding peep sight, standard markings including the caliber on the barrel at the breech and on the elevator. The rifle is also equipped with a special order style button magazine that is original to the barrel based on the lack of a dovetail for the magazine retainer used on rifles with longer length magazine tubes. The lower tang and stock inlet have no assembly or wood grade markings indicating the rifle was restocked with the current fancy grade checkered stock and forearm. The lower tang is also blued whereas the receiver is casehardened.

Rating Definition:

Very good as assembled (see above). The barrel retains 75% or more of the lightly thinned original blue finish, and the receiver has faint case colors and a silver-gray patina with mottled brown patina forming. The lower tang retains light blue finish mixed with areas of gray and brown patina. The refinished, recheckered wood is very good and has crisp checkering, attractive figure, and minor handling and storage marks. The action functions fine, and the markings are crisp.
