Finish: bright
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 2299

Description:

The Model 1836 is often considered the finest flintlock U.S. martial pattern and was widely used during the Mexican War and Civil War. The Model 1836 was the final flintlock handgun issued by the U.S. military. Both of these pistols were manufactured through a contract held by Asa H. Waters. The first remains in original flintlock configuration and has the earlier marking "eagle head/A. WATERS/MILBURY. MS./1838" on the lock, and the second has been converted to percussion using the Belgian cone style system and is marked with "eagle head/A. H. WATERS & Co/MILBURY MASS./1844." Both have the standard components and are marked with various inspection markings including cartouches on the left stock flats.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol remains mostly bright with some gay patina forming, flash pitting around the vent, and an aged patina on the brass. The stock is also good and has some light handling and storage marks and faint cartouches. The lock functions fine, and the markings are crisp.

Rating Definition:

Good. There are patches of mild pitting that have been polished over, and the surfaces are primarily bright. The stock is also good with a chip on the left at the breech, minor scratches and dings, and crisp cartouches and "12 B" on the left flat. The markings are mostly crisp, and the lock functions very well. The nipple is a later replacement.
