Description:

Measuring 11 inches overall, with a 7 1/2 inch straight blade, which has a lozenge cross section on the lower two-thirds decorated with gold filled patriotic/martial etching on a nitre blue background, and the final third showing a bright and well sharpened diamond cross section. The dual quillion guard is decorated with sculpted American eagles, with a three-piece mameluke-pattern hilt consisting of a gilt brass collar, a turned antique ivory joint, and a curved brown horn pommel. The sheath is gilt finished brass, with the obverse side engraved with scroll and leaf patterns around a panel scene of a bald eagle killing a snake and an arrangement of a fouled anchor among sails and rigging.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall. The very good blade shows a mixed brown and gray patina on the upper third, with some heavy pitting near the guard and mild spotting and handling marks overall. Half of the original gilt finish is present on the hilt and sheath, with some mild rubbing and handling marks overall, and a few age cracks on the other hilt components.
