Description:

Manufactured in limited numbers in the late 1890s and 1900s, this particular Bergmann pistol has been outfitted as a free-hand target gun, with the conventional fixed sights deleted in favor of a windage adjustable hooded pin front sight and an elevation adjustable notch rear sight mounted on the rear of the barrel just ahead of the dust cover. A curved finger rest has been installed on the underside of the trigger guard, and a novel double-set trigger is fitted, with the cocking trigger running along the top and front of the trigger guard interior, with a small light firing stud at the rear, with the adjustment screw hidden behind the finger rest. In addition to the usual markings, an oval silver plate is installed on the left side of the magazine, with the inscription "TIRO FEDERAL ARGENTINO/PREMIO/ofrecido por el/Jockey Club/1897", indicating a shooting prize supplied by the Jockey Club. The "Tiro Federal Argentino", headquartered in Buenos Aires, is one of the chief sport shooting organizations in Argentina, akin to the American National Rifle Association, and the Jockey Club was founded by many of the leading men in Buenos Aires, including major industrialists and politicians. An extended wrap around grip is installed, which fully encloses the grip frame.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 60% of the much faded original blue finish, showing areas of brown patina and light handling marks. Around 40% of the original straw and niter blue colors are present on the small parts, with a mixed gray patina on the remainder. The grip is very good, with a few light dings. Mechanically excellent.
