Description:

This is a very fine example of an extremely rare early Danish Dansk/Schouboe designed semi-automatic pistol in the extremely rare 11.35mm auto cartridge. These were designed in 1904/05 and were produced in 1907. They are actually based on the original Danish model 1903 semi-automatic pistol, only on a much larger size to handle the larger 11.35 mm cartridge. They were a very simple blow-back design that was robust and well made with the only flaw was that is was not designed to handle the standard U.S. 45 ACP cartridge. Instead it was designed to fire a very unique 11.35mm cartridge that fired a light 60 grain, high-velocity bullet, had a very thin jacket with a wooden core to help reduce the recoil, but still produced the very high velocity. This design was evaluated by several countries to include both Great Britain and the U.S. in the 1907 handgun trials. However it was eventually rejected by all countries as it didn't shoot the standard 45 ACP cartridge. As noted it was a very well made pistol that with some better engineering for the more powerful cartridge, could have been a real contender on the world market. The side of the receiver is stamped: DANSK-REKYLRIFFEL SYNDIKAT" for the factory were it was manufactured and towards the rear of the receiver it is stamped: "PATENT SCHOUBOE. It is serial numbered on the rear of the frame with number "378" with no other visible numbers. It is fitted with a set of steel grip panels and comes with one original magazine that is also serial numbered "378" on the underside of the base plate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall with light wear and scratches on the side of the barrel, and grip panels. The markings are clear and sharp. The right side of the frame, barrel, slide and grip all shows some signs of old very light pin-prick type dark surface rust pitting, probably from sitting in a holster. A very nice, rarely seen early Danish Model 1907 Schouboe Patent pistol in the rare early 11.35mm cartridge.
