Description:

This is a beautiful example of a very rare, early Mauser Model 1914 factory cutaway pistol serial number "5". These factory cutaway pistols were produced for both as a salesman sample and for use as a training tool in the factory and for armorers in the military. There were all usually produced in the early stages of production as this example, as it was at the very start of production for the new Model 1914 pistol, (not the humpback model). The factory cuts show all the inter workings of the pistol with five cuts on the right side and six on the left side with one cut on the back side of the grip. It is stamped with serial numbered "5" only on the front barrel lug and the underside of the left side plate. The left side of the slide is roll marked with a single line address of: "Waffenfabrik Mauser A.G. Oberndorf a, N." with no standard "Mauser's Patent" markings, indicating this is a very early pistol. It is fitted with the standard checkered walnut grips and is complete with the third pattern magazine with the smooth unmarked base plate with the square front with the "Mauser Banner" logo on the side of the magazine body. It has the pre-war rust blue finish overall with the heat blued side plate, trigger, barrel retaining rod head and grip screws. Some of the internal parts have a nice original straw colors.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original factory blue finish overall with only a very minor rub spot on the right front edge of the slide, with some light wear/fading of the heat blued finish on the face of the trigger and recoil spring guide head. The grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides, with a small nick on the middle right side. The pistol has never been fired and has a mint bore as the breech face was cutaway to show the firing pin assembly area. Beautiful example of a super rare early Model 1914 cutaway pistol.
