Description:

Manufactured in 1943. Hooded blade front and tangent rear sights, with "eagle/173/jhv/43" on top of the receiver ring, "G98/40" on the left sidewall, and a downturned bolt. The scope base is secured with three screws (zero pins) and is unmarked, with "8397u" on the ring base and "dow+" and "19153" on the World War II sniper scope itself. With a smooth walnut stock and a brown leather sling. Notes from a previous owner indicate that this rifle was the former property of gun writers Philip Sharpe and Will Piznak.

Rating Definition:

Very good as professionally, custom modified/refurbished, with 95% of the blue finish present, showing areas of copper brown patina on the bolt components and mild handling marks overall. A fine oil finish has been applied to the stock, which shows a few light dings but is otherwise very good. The optics are a bit hazy, and a retention nut is absent from the locking lever. Mechanically very good.
