Description:

This is an excellent example of a extremely rare late production Mauser Model 1912/14 experimental type Mauser presentation pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger. This beautiful pistol comes complete with an original Mauser French fitted presentation case with two spare matching (by serial number) magazines, and two cleaning rods. This design was originally based on the smaller 1910 pattern Mauser pistol only scaled up to use the larger 9 mm Luger cartridge. It is estimated that fewer than 200 of these pistols were ever manufactured, with only a handful that were actually embellished into a presentation type pistol. The original sales record from Hans Tauscher list approximately 8 of these pistols actually being sold in the U.S. in the 1914-16 time frame with pistol serial number 166, listed as being the highest known pistol sold, obviously this pistol was produced right towards the end of production. The left side of the slide is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.-G.OBERNDORF A.N. MAUSER'S PATENT". The full serial number "154" is stamped on top of the rear section of the slide, the rear of the frame, the spine of the magazine, the barrel lug, takedown latch, trigger, side plate, and slide release. The internal parts have the partial number "54". The grips are made of walnut and have been dyed black to give them the appearance of being onyx or ebony and have checkering in the center of each side with a silver wire inlay, combined with small mother of pearl roundels inset on each grip. The left grip has a quarter-sized silver disc inset into the grip that has been engraved with an intertwined "BA". The pistol was finished in a high polish Mauser blue on the major parts including the barrel latch, safety lever, trigger, and rear sight with a Mauser heat blue finish on the trigger, barrel latch, and extractor. The magazine is nickel-plated exactly like the earlier 1912 humpback model pistols. It is complete with its original and matching (numbered 154) magazine, as well as the accessories noted above.

Rating Definition:

Excellent like new with 99% of the original blue finish overall with no visible wear on the metal. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice distinct, sharp checkering on both sides. The silver wire inlay is all intact and so are the pearl insets. The back side and lower edge of the grip shows some minor rub marks where it has been handled over the years. The case is also in excellent condition showing only very, very minor rub marks on the underside. The locks and hinges are all intact. A rare all original early Mauser Model 1912/14 cased presentation pistol that is in exceptional condition. Certainly for the super advanced Mauser or early automatic pistol collector.
