Description:

This rifle is fitted with a second pattern 4X externally adjustable sniper scope. The top of the receiver has the Chrysanthemum over the Kanji markings for "Type 99" and the rear receiver ring is marked with the Nagoya arsenal proof over serial number "2478". The Kanji markings on top are intact, however the mum has been stuck twice, but not ground off completely, indicating most likely that it was captured in the field. It has an all matching bolt assembly numbered "478" to include the firing pin, extractor, shroud and body. The receiver is fitted with a mismatched number, replacement sheet steel dust cover, numbered "998". The scope is correctly marked on the ocular end "4 X7/manufacturers mark/No.8809", with various Kanji markings on the side of the scope mount. The locking plate on the back side is numbered "830" and the rear portion has an assembly number of "D25". It is fitted with the standard inverted "V" front sight with the later style rear peep sight without the anti-aircraft wings. The stock is a late pattern without the drain hole and a cupped steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 25% of the original finish. The finish has a rough overall appearance typical of late war production with some areas of high point and edge wear, scattered spotting and pitting, general handling marks, and mostly clear markings. The stock is good with indentations, deep gouges, general handling marks, and areas of darker discoloration. Mechanically functions, although the safety knob will not rotate into the safe position. The optics are clear.
