Type: Rifle
Gauge: 6.5 mm Japanese
Barrel: 31 1/2 inch round
Finish: blue
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 4070
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 130
Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun
Description:

This is an example of a very early Japanese service rifle, as produced by the Koishikawa Arsenal in Tokyo. These rifles actually were developed in the late 1890s and manufactured in the early 1900s and were used in the Russo-Japanese war, consequently the survival rate is very low, especially after the development of the Type 38 and 99 series of rifles. The top of the receiver is marked with the Imperial Chrysanthemum (intact) and the Kanji markings for "30 Year Type" and the side of the receiver has the four intertwined cannon balls indicating manufacture at the Tokyo Arsenal along with the six digit serial number indicating that this was a late production rifle. It has the early all machined and blued parts and the late series rear sight that is graduated from 200-2,000 meters with the "V" notch on top of the ladder. The stock is the three piece version that has the flat buttplate. The bolt is the correct hook pattern that is still in the white but the serial number doesn't match the rifle. Complete with a leather sling and cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Good as partially refinished and assembled (bolt mismatched). The rifle retains 60% of the original blue finish with minor muzzle wear, scratches and brown speckling. The markings are clear with minor loss of the white lettering. The revarnished stock is fair with scattered scratches and dings, pressure dents on the left above the trigger guard and separation of the two piece buttstock. Mechanically fine.

B) Japanese Type 22 Murata Bolt Action Carbine

Manufacturer: Japanese
Model: Type 22
Type: Carbine
Gauge: 8 mm Murata
Barrel: 19 1/2 inch round
Finish: blue
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 4070
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 130
Class: Antique
Description:

Introduced in 1894, the Type 22 rifle was Japan's first smokeless powder military rifle. This carbine has pinched blade front and ladder rear sights, with a clear chrysanthemum on the barrel and Japanese script on the receiver. Matching numbers on the receiver, barrel, trigger guard, floor plate, barrel bands, and bolt. Mounted on a full length smooth stock with sling swivels.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The carbine retains traces of the original blue finish with minor brown speckling and scattered dings. The markings are clear. The heavily worn, reoiled stock is fair with scattered scratches and dings. There is a deep scratch on the stock near the bolt and minor chips absent near the upper tang. Mechanically fine.
