Description:

Manufactured in limited quantities on order for the government of Imperial Russia, the distinctive "crossed Nagants" mark on the chamber is a rare sight on the modern market; of the original production run, approximately a thousand pistols, very few have ever made it out of Russia. Fixed sights, with the aforementioned crossed Nagant rifles on the chamber, the DWM monogram on the front toggle link, and matching "commercial pattern" serial numbering on the exterior. The left side of the frame is marked with the Bulgarian-style upper safety position legend, which is believed to have been used due to the production of Russian contract pistols immediately after the Bulgarian contract run, and the left side of the extractor has the Cyrillic "Loaded" marking. Finished in nickel, with checkered grips and a nickel finished wood base magazine. Included with the pistol is an unmarked brown leather holster, spare magazine and loading tool, as well as a February 1946 dated capture paper for "One (1) German Luger, caliber .38, Serial Number 516" made out by an officer of the 6th Liaison Squadron of the Army Air Corps. The chain of events that led to this pistol ending up in American hands is unknown, though it might have been a German war trophy taken during Operation Barbarossa and given up after the surrender or traded during one of the meet-ups between the Soviets and the Western Allies as their forces converged in Germany.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period replated, with 95% of the high polish nickel, showing some texture to the metal beneath the finish, as well as some light spotting, flaking, and handling marks overall. The magazine is numbered to another pistol, the extra magazine is unnumbered, and some of the internal parts have had their numbers removed. Grips are good with a few flats and dents, and the right grip screw has been replaced with a lanyard swivel. The holster is good with some mild scuffs and dents. Aside from a tight magazine well, the pistol is mechanically very good. These pistols are incredibly rare in any condition, and in many cases simply can't be found at all without resources and a bit of luck.
