Description:

Produced by an unknown swordsmith and sold by M. Neumann of Berlin. Measuring 38 inches overall, with a 32 1/2 inch quillback blade, showing a wavy etched Damascus pattern overall, the purveyor's mark on the spine, and an unknown makers mark on the left ricasso. The hilt is sculpted gilt brass, with a silver pair of crossed swords and a wreath on the right languet, a burgher's shield on the left, fine raised scroll and geometric decoration patterns overall, wire wrapped sharkskin grip and a lion head pommel with red stone eyes. With a black enamel finished scabbard, marked "3968(inverted 2)" on the bottom of the drag.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The very fine blade shows a few minor dings along the edge, with some mild handling marks overall. 90% plus original gilt finish is present on the hilt, with some rubbing along the edges and inside the guard. The shield has been ground and polished, possibly to remove an original set of arms, and a few rough spots are present on the grip. The scabbard is very good, with extensive flaking of the enamel finish and areas of brown patina.
