Description:

This is a very fine example of an early production, Mauser Model 1896, six-shot, large ring bolo frame pistol, that has the very desirable "Von Lengerke & Detmold" frame markings. This pistol model is a desirable early production based on the noted features above combined with the fact that it still has the desirable stock slot cut into the rear grip strap. This slot obviously was intended for the Mauser combination wooden shoulder stock/holster which was eliminated later on this model of pistol. The chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK, MAUSER OBERNDORF, A/N". It has the shallow milled frame panels with the right rear side marked: "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A.Neckar", with the left center frame panel marked in three lines: "VON LENGERKE/& DETMOLD/NEW YORK". The left side of the chamber is stamped with a double crown/U proofmark along with the serial number. The right side of the chamber area is blank. As noted it has the short Bolo style barrel with the banded front sight with the rear are of the upper receiver milled flat and it is fitted with a factory fixed rear sight. It is fitted with bolo style walnut grips with 32 grooves. The underside of the pistol frame is fitted with lanyard ring stud and lanyard ring. These six-shot Broomhandle pistols have the best feel and balance of all the 1896 pistols.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the grip straps and lower rear end of the frame. The grips are in fine condition with dark matching walnut on both sides, showing wear across the face of the grips, mixed with some minor handling marks. A very nice looking, fine example of a desirable early Mauser Model 1896 pistol.
