Description:

This is an example of a large ring hammer, Mauser Model 1896 Broomhandle pistol with the desirable flatside, unmilled frame and uniquely not slotted for shoulder stock. These models were produced during and after the Italian Navy contract pistols and feature the flat unmilled sides of the frame with early features such as the large ring hammer, long extractor, with the rear sight graduated from 50-500 meters. This example has the standard (non-reinforced) front chamber area of the barrel, with the late pattern one-lug firing pin retainer with the improved breech bolt and narrow trigger. It is fitted with a set of walnut grips that have the 23 grooves on each side. The top of the chamber is marked: "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF/an" with the single script letter proof on the right side of the chamber with the serial number on the left side. It is complete with the lanyard ring on the bottom of the butt. The pistol has the pre-war rust blued finish with the straw colored trigger with heat blued finish on the extractor, rear sight slide, safety lever, and bolt stop.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall with blue loss and browning on the grips straps and lower edges of the magazine well. The grips are in very fine condition overall with nice distinct serrations on the sides mixed with some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
