This is an example of a Luger that was arsenal reworked after WWI under the Treaty of Versailles. These Police rework Lugers were issued to various Weimar Police units throughout Germany. The front grip strap on this example is stamped " S.H. 517", indicating its was issued to the Schutzpolizei in Hannover. These are easily identified by the addition of the sear safety spring noted on top of the side plate and the police unit markings on the front grip strap. The top of the chamber is marked "1921" indicating the year of rework/reissue in accordance with the treaty and the front toggle is correctly marked with the "DWM" monogram. The right side of the barrel extension is correctly marked with the double "Eagle/WaA4" acceptance proof followed by the single "eagle" firing proof. As noted the top of the side plate has the small spring left over from the sear safety mechanism, which is typical of Police Lugers and the side plate has also been replaced and renumbered (72.) to match the frame. It has the standard Gesichert and Geladen markings and it has the standard fixed front and rear sights. The pistol is fitted with a set of checkered walnut grips, that have been renumbered to match the pistol. It has a standard rust blued finish with straw colored small parts and This Luger is complete with one unmarked polished steel magazine with an aluminum base. The base has been restamped with "2/8472/517/*K" over an old serial number.

Very fine with 95% of the arsenal refurbished blue finish overall with only edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the side plate, muzzle and front frame rails. The various smaller parts retain 90% of their refurbished straw colors overall. The walnut grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp distinct checkering with only a couple very minor handling marks. Mechanically functions fine, but magazine safety is inactive.
