Description:

This is a unique example of a very late DWM Model 1914 Commercial Luger pistol. The key aspect in determining this as a true Model 1915 commercial lies in the serial numbers. The noted 1914 serial number range runs from approximately 71,500 to 73,500, with the last of the 1914's starting somewhere at approximately 73,800 to 74,500 with the 1923 Commercial range starting at approximately 74,500 to 90,000. So based on that this could actually be one of the late 1914 Commercial Lugers. This isn't locked in concrete as there are some overlaps in serial numbers between all these low production 1913, 1914 , 1915 and 1923 commercial serial number ranges. The key point with this example is that the standard Crown/N proofs are in the vertical position instead of previous horizontal position. It still retains the 1914 stock lug, hold-open device, new style 1914 frame with the coil spring and the blank chamber. It has the standard DWM logo markings on the toggle. The left side of the barrel extension breech block and front toggle all now have the horizontal "Crown/N" proofs that is now used throughout production through 1942. The "Crown/N" is also found on the underside of the barrel. It is correctly numbered as a commercial Luger with the full five digit serial number stamped on the underside of the barrel and the front of the frame with the last two digits (61) on the recoil lug. The remaining parts are all correctly stamped with the last two digits (61) of the serial number. This example is correctly chambered in 9 mm Luger and it has the standard extractor and safety marking. It is complete with a nickel plated magazine with an unnumbered wooden base. It is fitted the standard walnut grips and has the high polish blue finish with straw colored smaller parts.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original blue remaining overall. The restrawed parts have 98% finish. The grips are also in excellent condition. Mechanically excellent. A very unique and certainly rare, DWM Model 1914 Commercial Luger pistol.
