Description:

This is an example of a 1914 DWM Navy Luger with "1916" chamber date. These later Navy Luger are very distinctive in that they lack the grip safety and have a stock lug and the late style flat checkered toggles. These Lugers were all issued during the early part of WWI and then subsequently reissued during the Weimar period where most were altered to conform to the Treaty of Versailles by being modified to a short barrel configuration. This version still retains the longer six-inch barrel with the correct two-position Navy rear sight adjustable from 100-200 meters. The chamber is dated 1916 and so is the left side of the front sight and the left frame rail. The front toggle is marked with the "DWM" scroll. The left side of the barrel extension has the single Crown proof along with two "Crown/M" Navy proofs. The left side of the barrel also has the single Crown proof and the underside of the barrel has the small "Crown/M" proof along with the serial number. It has a nickel plated magazine body with a wood base numbered to a different gun. The pistol has a rust blue finish with "straw" colored small components and checkered walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Fair as refinished with half of the dull arsenal rust blue and traces of straw colors on the small parts. Showing areas of light to moderate pitting throughout, handling marks, and areas of high edge wear. The grips are very good with general handling marks in the checkering and a few mild bruises. Mechanically excellent.
