This is a standard issue WWII Japanese Type 97 sniper rifle, complete with the 2.5X sniper scope. This rifle was produced at the Chigusa factory under Nagoya Arsenal. The top of the receiver has had the Royal Chrysanthemum ground and is marked with the Kana markings for "Type 97". The rear sight is the later style without the anti-aircraft wings and the rear barrel band is equipped with the monopod block, but no monopod is attached and it has the earlier style front barrel band. The buttstock is the two-piece type without drain holes, short hand guard and cupped sheet metal buttplate. The top rear section of the 2.5 power scope is marked with a star and the base is marked "11549".

Fine with 50% of the original blue with areas of pitting, correct rough military blue finish on the receiver, and areas of some light spotting. The wood is good with the exception of the handguard. The handguard has a bullet hole in it, and a chip on the lower right edge. The stock shows handling marks, and small indentations throughout. Mechanically excellent. The rear swivel is missing a screw. The optics are hazy.
