A) Murata Type 18 Bolt Action Rifle

Description:

This rifle features a blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with a bayonet lug on the front barrel band, cleaning rod and standard markings on the receiver. The rifle has an crisp chrysanthemum with matching numbers on the bayonet lug, rear sight, barrel band, barrel, receiver, floor plate, trigger guard, rear sling swivel and buttplate. The bolt is marked "69970". Mounted on a smooth straight grip stock with sling swivels and a steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The rifle retains 20% of the blue finish with scattered scratches and pitting. Some of the markings are partially obliterated on the receiver. The heavily sanded, revarnished stock is fair with scattered scratches and dings. The butt has several chips and slivers of wood absent around the buttplate. Mechanically fine.

Description:

Manufactured from 1889 to 1899, the Type 22 rifle was Japan's first smokeless powder military rifle. This rifle has an inverted "V" front and ladder rear sights, with a clear chrysanthemum on the barrel and Japanese script on the receiver. The bolt is marked "631". The magazine floor plate and bayonet lug are marked "52544". Full length checkered stock with bayonet lug, sling swivels and a steel buttplate. Complete with bayonet and metal sheath.

Rating Definition:

Fair as assembled (see above) with traces of the blue finish showing scattered pitting and the balance mostly brown patina and mild handling marks. Stock is also fair with scattered scratches, dings, chips and dents. The upper handguard is absent, and the buttstock has minor separation. The checkering is crisp. Mechanically functions but is missing the extractor.
