This is an attractive "display" example of a WWII type Model 1928A1 Thompson submachine gun that was manufactured by the Savage Arms Company. This is wartime version of the famous Thompson SMG that has subsequently be overhauled and custom upgraded with a fancy walnut stock and a chrome plated finish. This weapon still retains some of the early features that are recognizable WWII movies such as the: short 10 1/2 inch finned barrel with the "CUTTS" marked ported, compensator on the end, the vertical front grip, detachable buttstock and adjustable rear sight. The receiver was originally marked: "US MODEL OF 1928 A1/NO. S-161405" with the "US" marking milled off and the "1" over stamped with a capital letter "C". Farther back on the receiver it is marked "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER .45 AUTOMATIC CARTRIDGE". The obverse is marked in two-lines "AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION/BRIDGEPORT CONNECTICUT U.SA." The top of the receiver is marked with the "Thompson Bullet" logo. As noted this mid-WWII production SMG is fitted with a new set of walnut pistol grips and a deluxe walnut buttstock. It is complete with one nickel plated 20 round magazine.

Very good as custom chrome plated (for display) with 90% of the chrome plated finish remaining overall with wear on the edges and high spots with finish loss on the underside of the trigger housing/pistol grip area and the top of the receiver. The sides of the receiver also show some thinning mixed with light scratches from handling and firing. The markings are clear and readable, however some of them are a little light in areas due to the metal being replated. The wood components are in excellent condition with nice medium brown color overall showing no handling marks. Still a nice looking WWII Savage Arms Model 1928A1 Thompson SMG. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), Fully Automatic Weapon that is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATF&E) that has been classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
