Description:

This double rifle features beaded blade front and fixed notch rear sights on the solid matte rib. The left barrel is marked "CHARLES LANCASTER. 151 NEW BOND STREET LONDON", and the right is marked "NON-FOULING SMOOTH OVAL BORE RIFLING". The oval bore system was developed by Lancaster initially for use in larger artillery pieces and cannon and helped revolutionize pre WWI British artillery. He later took to modifying it for many small arms as well. No cartridge designation or markings are on the barrel flats. It appears to be chambered for the 450x3 174 BPE. The casehardened frame features light scroll engraved borders, and more detailed engraving is on the hammers. The side plates are marked "CHARLES LANCASTER. LONDON" on both the right and left sides and have sliding safety stops. There are standard British proofs on the barrel and frame. Mounted on a nicely figured multi-point checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with a lower sling stud, hard rubber grip cap, and steel buttplate. The stock Measurements are: 1 3/4 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored overall with 98% of the blue on the barrels and vibrant case colors. The barrels show a few small dings and markings buffed slightly light, though legible. The frame shows 90% plus vibrant case colors with some light edge wear and general handling marks. The wood is very fine with scattered small dings and some brown patina on the buttplate. Mechanically excellent.
