Description:

Zimmer Schuetzen rifles were a German variant of the parlor guns popular in the late 19th, early 20th century. This example is marked "GEORG GREISS MUNCHEN" on the fluted barrel in silver between the silver banded breech and elevation adjustable rear sight. The bottom of muzzle is marked "F. Scholl/N/12". The front sight features a matted ramp with wings, the front sight post is absent. The upper tang is equipped with a large diopter peep sight. The tangs and trigger guard and false lever are casehardened and have elaborate floral scroll engraving as does the tang of the hooked buttplate and lock plates. It is fitted on a walnut stock with elaborate floral carving and fine relief accented checkering on the forend and wrist and a large cheekpiece. The bottom of the stock is marked "11" under a flower style cartouche.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with 40% of the original blue finish with the balance having aged to a dark brown patina. Light dings and surface scratches are present overall as well as a dark aged patina on the silver inlay. The lever, triggers, and lock plates have a dark aged patina with a lighter area around and on the hammer. The wood is fine with indentations throughout, detailed carvings and poor fit at the buttplate and front trigger guard tang. Mechanically fine.
