Description:

This is an absolute as new and unfired Colt Super .38 "Super Match" pistol. These early pre-war Colt Super .38 automatics are very difficult to find in any condition and in this exceptional high end condition, they are near impossible! These beautiful prewar pistols exhibit all the prewar workmanship you would expect from the Colt factory that includes a beautiful Colt high polish commercial blue finish, hand fitted parts for a super smooth operation with the factory fitted checkered walnut grips. The left side of the slide is marked with the Colt two line elongated Hartford address and 1897-1913 patent dates. The right side is marked "SUPER MATCH" over "COLT/SUPER .38/AUTOMATIC", followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. This superb pistol has the early short ramp target front sight and the rare early "Stevens" fully adjustable target rear sight. It is fitted with the correct blued Colt 38 Super Match barrel that is marked on the lower left side: "COLT SUPER .38 AUTO MATCH" with the small circled "MB" on the lug indicating that it’s a MATCH BARREL. The barrel and frame still retains their original Colt factory polished feed ramps and chamber area. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped "P" over the "Colt/VP triangle" proofmark with the right side stamped with the number "60". It comes with its original Colt half-tone magazine marked "COLT SUPER 38 AUTO", on the bottom of the base plate, with the correct reinforcing rib in the center of the magazine. It has the correct original parts such as: the arched/checkered mainspring housing, short horned grip safety, thick checkered thumb safety and checkered slide stop release. As noted this fabulous early Colt pistol comes complete with its original Colt factory maroon shipping box hand numbered "32515" on the underside in pencil; the matching test target that is also written in red grease pencil "Selected by Fitz"; the original Stevens rear sight hanging tag, the Colt instruction manual; a fold out pamphlet on "shooting suggestions" and the original small rear sight screw driver still in its original package. As a side note, those of you who don't know who Fitz is, he was the Colt Senior Sales manager during the late 1920s until the 1950s. He attended, represented and shot at the Camp Perry National Pistol Matches and also helped Colt develop many new and innovative Colt revolvers and automatic pistols. Based on his personal selection of this pistol and the absolutely like new condition the next lucky owner needs to request a Colt letter to find out the real history on this rare pistol!

Rating Definition:

Near new in original box with 99% plus original blue finish overall. The walnut grips are in the same as new condition. The pistol actually looks like it was made, shipped to the owner and never touched! The maroon box is just like the pistol in that it is in excellent condition with just a hint of edge wear on the corners and rear edge of the lid. The end labels that correctly identifies this make and model are all intact. An extraordinary example of a rare and truly outstanding Colt Super Match/38 Super pistol with box!
