Description:

This is an very fine example of a late M1903A1 Springfield service rifle. These late service rifle are very rare as Springfield stopped all service rifle production in 1937 with any subsequently manufactured rifles were used as a replacement for unserviceable rifles found in Army inventory or a National Match rifle for DCM sales. Not more than a few hundred complete service rifles were manufactured between 1938-1940. In late 1939, Springfield Armory ceased all M1903 production, with serial number 1535xxx. Standard Springfield Armory receiver markings over number "1520285". The barrel is marked "SA/Ordnance Shell and Flame/8-38". It has the correct all milled components to include a correct "NS" stamped Nickel Steel bolt. Its fitted with an original pre-war, pistol grip "C" stock and late production 1903A1 handguard. Correctly stamped with an original boxed "SA/SPG" cartouche and a circled "P" proofmark, with a faint "P" proof in the pistol grip area. The rear underside of the stock is stamped with a "D1836" drawing number and the top of the handguard is stamped with a "D28179" drawing number; both late production National Match type parts. It has all the correct milled components, trigger guard, floor plate and barrel bands with the blade front sight and the correct style rear sight graduated from 200-2,800 with no 2,850 yard notch on the end.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 98% of its dark green, wartime/arsenal parkerized finish overall showing minor edge and high spot wear with cycling wear on the bolt body. The stock and handguard are both in very fine condition with both having a medium brown color overall with dried linseed oil on the outside, showing minor handling marks and pressure dents from handling and light field use. The cartouches and proofs, are clear and distinct. A very nice example of a late production Springfield Armory 1903A1 service rifle.
