Description:

Deluxe U.S. Army "Model 1902 Saber for All Officers" with etched presentation blade made by A.H. Dondero Mfg. Co. Washington, D.C. (so marked on blade). The saber has a slightly curved, 31 1/2-inch single edge blade with etched panels. The reverse of the blade is inscribed "Presented To Captain Arthur C. Newman By The Members of Company A, 372 Infantry, December 27, 1935" in Old English letters. The obverse of the blade is etched with the dealer's name and "U.S." surrounded by delicate floral sprays. The silver-plated hilt has a bird's head pommel, hard rubber grip with deeply carved finger grooves, three-branch counter guard pierced for a saber knot and sharply down-turned quillon. The base of the counter guard is decorated with a cast eagle clutching arrows and laurel branches and thirteen five-pointed stars. The pommel and branches of the counter guard are decorated with cast floral sprays. The nickel-plated scabbard has a pierced silver-plated suspension ring mount and drag. This is a deluxe presentation example of the last saber authorized for wear by U.S. Army officers.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The blade is near perfect with very minor handling marks. The hilt retains 80% plus of the silver-plated finish. The scabbard is in extremely fine condition with several small patches of flaking on the obverse side of the scabbard body. A very attractive Presentation Officer's Saber.
