Description:

In 1893 to mid-1894 approximately 2,000 of these Stevens rifles with removable side plates were manufactured. They were advertised in November 1893 as "STEVENS IDEAL" rifles and are very similar in design to the First Model "Favorite" rifles which debuted that year. This example has a combination globe and blade front sight, notch rear sight with two additional folding leaves, and a short range tang peep sight. It has a smooth Schnabel tip forearm and straight wrist buttstock with Swiss style target buttplate. The barrel is marked with the one-line J. Stevens A & T Co. address and patent information on the upper left flat, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel and the lower tang.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The rifle retains more than half of the fading original blue and niter blue finish, and the action retains a third of the partially faded case colors. The buttplate retains 90% of the original nickel plating and has some brass showing at the edges. The wood is very good. The forearm has most of the oil absent from handling and has some light marks. The buttstock is very good with a few dings and light scratches and strong original finish. The action functions very well, and the markings are crisp.
