Stevens tip-up rifles were manufactured from the 1870s until the mid-1890s both with and without forends. This example was manufactured pre-1886 and has the "J. STEVENS & CO." address and patent marking on the left side of the barrel at the breech. It features a combination blade and globe front sight, notch rear sight, and a long range peep sight. The serial numbers match throughout.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 95% plus of the original finishes remain. There are limited spots of fading, and the nickel has taken on a slightly aged patina. The stock is also very fine and has a few minor dents. The action functions excellently, and the markings are crisp.

Description:

Stevens tip-up rifles were manufactured from the 1870s until the mid-1890s. This example was manufactured pre-1886 and has the "J. STEVENS & CO." address and patent marking on the left side of the barrel at the breech. It has a nickel plated brass frame. The first 500-600 tip-up rifles are believed to all have had brass frame, and brass frames are also sporadically found until around serial number 1300. It features a German silver blade front sight, dovetailed notch rear sight, and a second rear sight dovetail at the breech. The matching serial number is marked on the various components, and it has the standard style buttstock and no forend.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel, trigger, and hammer have primarily a textured brown patina and some brighter edge wear. The frame and buttplate retain 95% of the original nickel plating and have some minor flaking, dings, and scratches. The stock is fair with a break at the toe and several scratches and pressure marks. The action functions fine, and the markings are clear.
