Stevens manufactured tip-up rifles in many variations from the 1870s to the mid-1890s. This example was manufactured post-1886 and has the J. Stevens A & T Co. two line address and patent marking on the upper left flat, the caliber designation on the upper right flat, a beach combination bead and globe front sight, fixed notch rear sight, a Vernier peep short rang tang sight, smaller frame size, Schnabel tip forend with nickel plated rear fitting, and a smooth buttstock with Swiss style target buttplate. The serial numbers the various components all match aside from the buttplate which is numbered "1/310" but appears original to the gun.

Very fine. As partially refinished (barrel/stock) with 98% of the finishes remaining. There is some slight spotting on the action. The wood is also very fine and has strong, glossy oil finish, some nice figure, minor handling and storage marks, and a few very slight grain cracks in the butt. The action functions perfectly, and the markings are crisp. The sleeved barrel has strong rifling.
