A) Very Fine Stevens Tip-Up Target Rifle with Forend

Description:

Stevens manufactured these tip-up rifles from the 1870s until the mid-1890s. This example was manufactured post-1886 and has the J. Stevens A & T Co. address and patent marking on the left side at the breech. It is equipped with a beaded blade front sight, notch rear sight, tang mounted Vernier peep sight, smooth forearm and straight wrist stock, and a Swiss style target buttplate. The serial numbers on various components match.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 95% plus of the original blue finish remains on the barrel. The hammer and trigger retain virtually all of the bright niter blue finish, and the action, trigger guard, and buttplate retain 95% plus of the original nickel plating. There is some exposed brass on the tops of the buttplate and mild wear on the trigger guard. The wood is very good and has only minimal minor dings and light scratches. The markings are crisp, and the action functions excellently.

Description:

Stevens tip-up rifles were manufactured from the 1870s until the mid-1890s both with and without forends. This example was manufactured pre-1886 and has the "J. STEVENS & CO." address and patent marking on the left side of the barrel at the breech. It features a combination blade and globe front sight, notch rear sight, and a mid-range peep sight. The matching serial number is marked on several components.

Rating Definition:

Very good. 75% of the fading original blue finish remains on the barrel. The underside has a brown patina. The trigger and hammer retain more than half of the original niter blue finish, and 95% plus of the original nickel plating remains on the action, trigger guard, and buttplate. The stock is very good with some attractive, subtle figuring and minor scratches. There are some overall minor handling and storage marks. The action functions excellently, and the markings are crisp.
