A) Very Fine Stevens Tip-Up Target Rifle with Forend

Description:

Stevens manufactured these tip-up rifles in many variations from the 1870s to the mid-1890s with and without forends. This example was manufactured post-1886 and has the J. Stevens A & T Co. two line address and patent marking on the upper left flat, a combination blade and globe front sight, filler block in place of a sight, a tang mounted Lyman peep sight, Schnabel tip forend, and a smooth buttstock with Swiss style target buttplate. The matching serial number is on various components.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 90% of the slightly fading original blue finish remains on the barrel. The action, trigger guard, and buttplate retain 98% plus of the original nickel plating, and the hammer and trigger retain 95% plus of the original niter blue finish. There are a few minor marks and scratches scattered throughout. The wood is also very fine and has only a few small pressure marks. The action functions perfectly, and the markings are crisp.

Description:

Stevens manufactured variations of these tip-up rifles from the 1870s to the mid-1890s. This pre-1886 example has dovetailed blade and notch sights, the Stevens & Co. address and patent marking on the upper left barrel flat, the matching serial number on various components, and a smooth, straight wrist stock with a nickel plated rifle buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 85% of the lightly fading original blue finish remains on the barrel. There are strong traces of original niter blue finish on the hammer and trigger, and the action, trigger guard, and buttplate retain 95% of the original nickel plating. There is some slight pin pricking in the nickel and some light spotting on the barrel. The stock is very fine and has some minor marks and scratches. The upper tang screw will not tighten properly. The action functions very well, and the markings are clear.
