Description:

Heavy hunter's pet type frame (1.25 wide). This early example has the pre-1886 marking "J. STEVENS & CO. CHICOPEE FALLS MASS PAT. SEPT. 6, 1864" on the upper left flat of the heavy full octagon barrel The serial number is marked on the left side of the barrel as well as the left side of the grip frame under the wood. It has a dovetailed blade and notch sights, checkered grips, and a standard hooked trigger guard, that appears to be added, as well as the heavy "Lord" type grip base.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 75% of the original blue finish on the barrel. Showing areas of light edge wear, some scattered spotting, and surface scratches. The frame has aged to a dull, frosted silver color with scattered edge wear and small nicks and dings throughout. The grips are very good with well defined checkering and general handling marks. Mechanically very good.

Description:

Manufactured between 1889 and 1903. The barrel is marked on the left flat with the two-line Chicopee address and patent information. The barrel has been fitted with a Sidle scope with an elevation adjustable rear mount. The hammer and trigger are checkered. Fitted with checkered grips. The butt is slotted for the addition of a shoulder stock.

Rating Definition:

Fine as refinished (barrel) with 75% of the blue finish on the barrel and some areas thinning to an aged brown patina. The barrel markings have been buffed light but are still legible. The nickel finish has an aged/frosted appearance with some light edge wear. The grips are very good with well defined checkering and some handling marks. Mechanically very good. The scope has aged to a plum/brown patina on the tube. The optics are hazy.
