This rifle was manufactured in 1886 and has a blued #3 weight barrel with a globe front sight, sporting rear sight, the two-line address, and "40-82 W.C.F." at the breech. The action, lever, single set trigger, and buttplate are nickel-plated and feature extensive floral scroll and punch dot engraving patterns along with some geometric accents. Among the designs is a banner on the left, a rose at the breech on top, and additional floral blooms. The serial number and patent markings are on the lower tang. The upper tang is tapped for peep sight mounting. It is fitted with deluxe checkered fancy walnut semi-pistol grip stock and forearm with ebony inserts and attractive striped figure. The .40-82 Winchester cartridge was introduced in 1885. The factory letter indicates the rifle was shipped originally in "40/90 St." (now 40-82WCF) with a 30 inch octagon barrel, set trigger, and checkered pistol grip stock. It was received in the warehouse on May 7, 1886, and shipped three days later on order 5971.

Very good as custom engraved and refinished. 95% plus of the blue finish and nickel-plating remains. The nickel is yellowed in several spots, and there are some overall light scratches and slight marks from handling and storage and some light spotting on the barrel. The wood is very good with some small chips and scratches. It is mechanically excellent and has crisp markings and engraving designs.
