Manufactured by William Powell & Son, a fine well respected Birmingham gunmaking firm established in the early 1800s, and operating in an unbroken line of succession by subsequent generations of the Powell family. The damascus barrels feature a single bead sight on the smooth concave rib marked "WILLIAM POWELL & SON, 13 CARR'S LANE. BIRMINGHAM" with 2 3/4 inch chambers and improved cylinder/improved modified chokes. The Anson & Deeley patent box lock action features fine English floral and scroll engraving with "WILLIAM POWELL & SON" marked on both sides. Fitted with double triggers, an automatic tang safety, and auto ejectors. Mounted on a finely checkered splinter forearm and straight grip stock with a silver initial oval on the bottom and a checkered horn buttplate. Barrel and stock measurements are as follows: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech .733/.734 inches; wall thickness at 9 inches from breech .0585/.058 inches; drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 1 7/8 inches; 1/4 inch cast off; 1/2 inch toe out; 15 inch length of pull.

Very fine as refinished and repaired (stock). The barrels have a dark blue finish with some visible Damascus pattern, some light surface scratches, minor dings and light edge wear at the muzzle. The receiver shows signs of cleaning with a smooth gray patina, clear engraving and general handling marks. The wood has well defined, partially smooth checkering, and attractive grain. The buttstock comb has been replaced, but it is a very close match to the lower portion. Mechanically excellent.
