Description:

This is an excellent example of a very early Mauser Model 1912/14 prototype semi-automatic pistol, serial number "47" chambered in 9 mm Luger. This design was originally based on the smaller Mauser Model 1910 pistol only scaled up to use the larger 9 mm Luger cartridge. It is estimated that approximately 150-200 of these pistols were ever manufactured with the highest recorded serial number being "176", with only a very small number even known to exist today. The sales records from Hans Tauscher only lists 8 as being sold in the U.S. during the 1914-16 time frame. This specific pistol (serial number 47) is not listed in any of the current Mauser reference books, so it maybe somewhat new to the market. It has the earlier straight/1910 style grip frame, solid back strap NOT cut for a shoulder stock, and it has the standard fixed front and rear sights. The slide is roll marked in one line "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A.N. MAUSER'S PATENT". The serial number "47" is stamped on the frame, slide, barrel, trigger, barrel release, safety lever, safety release spring, back of the magazine, and side plate. It is fitted with a one-piece set of wraparound checkered walnut grips. The pistol was finished in a rust blue finish on the major parts including the barrel latch, safety lever, trigger and rear sight, with a heat blue type finish on the various smaller parts.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 99% of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spots wear, mixed with general light thinning of the blue overall with some minor brown patina spots. The smaller parts retain 75% of their nitre blued colors. The on-piece checkered wood grip is in very fine condition overall with light handling marks on the sides and top edges with distinct checkering showing minor light pressure dents on the sides in some areas.
