This is one of around 8,879 Model 1841 rifles rebored for use with .58 caliber ammunition in 1855-1860. Most had their ramrods replaced with larger all steel rods like this one. Though outdated by the time of the Civil War, many of these rifles saw use in the conflict in both the Union and Confederate armies. It is dated "1853" on the lock and "1854" on the barrel tang and has standard markings and features.

Rating Definition:

Good with faded original brown finish mixed with dark brown patina, mild speckled pitting, and light oxidation on the iron and attractive aged patina on the brass. The stock is very good and has some minor dents and scratches. Some of the markings are faint, and it remains mechanically excellent.
