This exceptional Winchester Model 1892 musket was manufactured in 1909. Winchester manufactured far fewer Model 1892 muskets than rifles or carbines, and Model 1892 Muskets are extremely rare in any condition. This musket is chambered for the .38 W.C.F. cartridge and has a 30-inch barrel with distinctive long forearm secured by three barrel bands. The barrel has a block mounted steel front sight that serves as a lug for a socket bayonet and military style, folding leaf, rear sight. Sling swivels are mounted on the middle barrel band and stock. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped. The stock has a carbine style buttplate. The barrel, magazine, barrel bands, receiver, bolt, trigger, loading gate and sling swivels have a blue finish. The hammer, lever and butt-plate have a subdued color casehardened finish. The stock and forearm are oil-finished, straight grain, American walnut. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14, 1884." in two lines behind the lower barrel band. "38 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. The oval Winchester "W/P" proof mark is stamped on the top of the barrel and the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S. PAT. OFF." in three lines. The serial number is roll-stamped across the underside of the front end of the receiver.

This extremely rare musket is all original and retains at least 98% of the bright original finish with only very minor storage wear. The barrel has some light scuff marks at the muzzle from the socket bayonet. The remainder of the barrel, magazine, barrel bands and rear sight have nearly all of the blue finish. The Winchester legend, caliber designation and proof are sharp. The upper edges of the receiver show traces of finish wear and there is some very minor finish flaking visible on the underside and lower left edge of the receiver. The balance of the receiver has all of the blue finish. The hammer and lever retain 99% of the vivid case colors. The carbine style buttplate has nearly 98% of the casehardened finish, with some thinning on the heel. The stock and forearm are in nearly new condition with 98% of the original finish. There are two shallow dents visible in the left side of the stock near the buttplate. This may very well be your only opportunity to obtain an extremely rare Winchester Model 1892 musket in excellent original condition!
