Description:

John Krider was an American sporting goods maker in Philadelphia where he made everything from fly rods and fishing reels to top quality shotguns and rifles. Single bead sight on the smooth concave rib marked "PHILADA" just forward of the breech with light engraving at the breech end of the rib, British proofs on the undersides of the barrels, and improved cylinder/improved cylinder chokes. The locks are marked "J. KRIDER" with splashes of light scroll engraving, lightly engraved hammers, and more intricate work on the trigger guard and finials. Wedge fastened checkered one-piece stock with a silver initial plate at the top of the wrist, and smooth iron buttplate. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 1 5/8 inches; drop at heel 2 inches; length of pull 14 1/4 inches. With a modern hardwood takedown case with brass fittings, red cloth interior, and reproduction Krider label on the inside of the lid.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrels have an overall brown/gray patina with a faintly visible twist pattern, some scattered spotting and pitting, scattered scratches, and some small dents. The locks are gray overall with faint traces of original case colors, some light spotting, and brown patina. The stock is also fine as lightly sanded and re-varnished with well defined checkering, numerous small dings throughout, and some larger pressure marks. Mechanically excellent.
